Superconductivity

Has anyone read this article yet? Could change our understanding of science as we know it.

Not to take anything away

Not to take anything away from this study, but even if it gets verified I'm not sure it changes science qua science all that much. There's nothing forbidding room temperature superconductivity now. It's just that we don't have a mechanism to explain it. But we can't explain exactly how the oxide superconductors work either. This would raise the ante a bit, of course.

The impact on technology is also likely to be more muted than it may seem. Room temperature superconductivity, even if real and practical, allows some things we already do to be accomplished at somewhat lower cost. That's pretty much it.

And in this case I'm not holding my breath for verification. I hope it's true, but wishing doesn't make it so.
