News Category:

Prof. Eric Toberer from the Department of Physics Colorado School of Mines, Golden CO, USA has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Young Investigator International Thermoelectric Society Award. The award will be given to Prof. Toberer during the award ceremony at the ICT2011 banquet in Traverse City, Michigan. Prof. Toberer will give an invited talk at ICT2011.

Prof. Toberer received his PhD in materials Science in 2006 from the Univeristy of California at Santa Barbara, CA. Prof. Toberer’s outstanding contributions have been documented in a number of impressive journal publications on synthesis and transport properties of advanced thermoelectric materials with complex crystals structures, including Zintl phases and Zn4Sb3. His curriculum vitae can be found below.

Two candidates competed for the award this year. In addition to Prof. Toberer, Dr. Ngo Van Nong from Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy Technical University in Denmark. Both applicants were very strong and the selection was difficult but the Selection Committee eventually declared Prof. Toberer as the winner for this year.

On behalf of the International Thermoelectric Society, I would like to thank both applicants and commend them for their outstanding accomplishments in the field of thermoelectrics. I would also like to, again, congratulate Prof. Toberer for this fine accomplishment.
