Mr. Andrew F. May Wins 2010 ITS Goldsmid Award

Mr. Andrew F. May selected as the 2010 International Thermoelectric Society Goldsmid Award recipient!

Mr. May from California Institute of Technology, USA has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 International Thermoelectric Society Goldsmid Award. The award, generously sponsored in part by Marlow Industries, will be given to Mr. May during the award ceremony at the ICT 2010 banquet in Shanghai, China.

Mr. Andrew F. May Wins 2010 ITS Goldsmid Award

Mr. May received his BS and MS degrees in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University USA and California Institute of Technology (Caltech) USA in 2004 and 2007, respectively.  Mr. May is expecting to finish his Ph.D. at Caltech in 2010.  Mr. May's outstanding contributions have been documented in a number of journal publications on Lanthanum telluride and other modern thermoelectric materials.  His curriculum vitae can be found here.

 A total of five candidates competed for the award this year. In addition to Mr. May, the other candidates were:

   * Ms. Sabah Bux, Univ. of California, Los Angeles, USA
   * Mr. Yee Kan Koh, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA
   * Ms. Chinatsu Okamura, Shimane University, Japan
   * Mr. Wenjie Xie, Clemson University, USA and Wuhan University of Technology, China

With a very strong pool of applicants this year, the selection was difficult but the Selection Committee eventually declared Mr. Andew May as the winner for this year.

On behalf of the International Thermoelectric Society, I would like to thank all applicants and commend them for their outstanding accomplishments in the field of thermoelectrics. I would also like to, again, congratulate Mr. May for this fine accomplishment.
