Forum members,
Back in November 2016 I sent an email to Dr Sabah Bux, senior member of technical staff at Jet Propulsion Laboratory who will chair the ICT conference in Pasadena later this year, suggesting that a presentation describing the Danish scientist Hans Christian Oersted’s contributions in promoting the early understanding of thermoelectric phenomena may be of some interest.

“Dear Dr Bux,
2017 will be the 240th anniversary of the birth of Danish physicist Hans Christian Oersted. It seems clear that Oersted played a significant role in interpreting and publicising Thomas Johann Seebeck's pioneering work in Thermoelectricity.
Indeed, it appears that it was in fact Oersted who first suggested to Seebeck that the magnetic effect produced by his bi-metallic circuits must be the result of electric currents circulating in them.
Do you think that it might be of interest for someone to present a brief appraisal of Oersted's contributions to the scientific understanding of Thermoelectric phenomena at the 2017 ICT Conference in Pasadena?
Kindest regards,
Keith P Walsh”

Attached to this email was a PDF print of all sections from the ITS Public TE forum message thread, “Oersted Confirmed Frog's Leg Convulsions by Thermoelectric Effect in 1830”, up to and including, “Anecdotal Evidence and The Principle of Cause and Effect” which was submitted on 5 November 2016.

I cannot be certain how much of this attachment Dr Bux actually read, but after an exchange of communications I have accepted an invitation to give a poster presentation entitled, “Frogs’ Legs, Thermoelectricity, and Hans Christian Oersted”, at the Pasadena Convention Center from July 30 to August 3.
The full list of poster presentations is available via the ICT 2017 web page at:

If anyone who has followed this topic in the ITS Public TE Forum will be attending ICT2017, I would be most interested in meeting up there for any discussion on it.
Best regards,
Keith P Walsh

The poster which will be presented at ICT 2017 under the title:
“Frogs’ Legs, Thermoelectricity, and Hans Christian Oersted”
is now available for preview at:

I look forward to meeting fellow attendees for discussion on this and any other topics raised at the conference.
