8:30-21:30 Post-conference Excursion
The ICT98 will have a plenary session and single technical session with invited and contributed talks, and two poster sessions with contributed papers. 187 abstracts in total were accepted for presentation by the Organizing Committee. As a rule, papers the Organizing Committee expects to be of common interest are scheduled for oral presentation, whereas papers felt to stimulate detailed discussion are classified for poster presentation.
A welcome party will be held at the Conference Venue on Sunday evening, May 24, starting 5:30 pm. On Monday evening we will leave the Conference Venue at 5:30 pm by bus for the Mixer at Nagoya Port, to enjoy night cruising on KINKO or HEISEI-1. The conference banquet will be held at the Nagoya International Hotel on Wednesday, May 27, from 7:30 pm. On Thursday evening, we will have a farewell party at the Conference Venue starting at 6:30 pm. Sightseeing tours were not arranged for accompanying persons, owing to lack of interest.
We will have an exhibition by 12 companies from Canada, Israel, Russia, Ukraine and Japan, featuring their latest thermoelectric devices and products, as well as products and equipment related to thermoelectricity, from Monday through Thursday on the 9F of the Conference Venue.
Participants in the Post-Conference Excursion will visit the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS), and traditional workshops for Japanese Paper (Washi) in Mino City and Tempering Japanese Swords in Seki City; and enjoy cormorant-fishing on a boat. The course and fee are shown below. If you wish to participate in the Excursion, please apply to the Secretariat using the Registration Form enclosed with the 2nd Announcement.

Evening Seminar --- Past, Present, and Future of Thermoelectrics will be held on Tuesday night, with four distinguished scientists who will talk about their experiences to encourage young scientists and engineers for the future of thermoelectric science and technology. Not only young scientists but those with longer experience are welcome.
Place: Sakae Gas Hall at the Sakae Gas Building
Time: 19:00-21:00
Instructions for preparing full-length papers for the Conference Proceedings were sent to all speakers. The authors were asked to submit their manuscripts at the conference site during the ICT98. Deadline is May 26, 1998. Only presented contributions will be refereed for inclusion in the proceedings.
There will be a best-paper award for both oral and poster contributions presented by
young scientists. The awards will be given at the end of the
conference, during the farewell party.
This is a very new idea for ICT.
Before the official poster session begins each day, the authors are given one minute
each to briefly summarize their papers in the Main Hall, using one viewgraph, to help
participants quickly understand the key points of their presentations. Authors
wishing to make this quick oral presentation are required to
contact the Secretariat by FAX or e-mail before April 30, as we notified in the previous
letter.

From Sakae, downtown Nagoya, take the Higashiyama-line subway bound for Fujigaoka; at

Nonami. The conference venue is a 5-minute walk from Fukiage station, Exit No. 5.

The city of Nagoya, the nucleus of central Japan, is an industrial metropolis built upon 380 years an of history and cultural heritage. The area in and around the City contains a large number of high-tech industries with names known worldwide, such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda, Sony, NOK, Noritake, etc.
Nagoya enjoys a temperate climate; agriculture flourishes on the fertile plains surrounding the City. Its central location, made old Nagoya a transportation crossroads, is still an advantage for Nagoya's visitors today. Nagoya is close to an abundance of sightseeing locations From the beautiful seashores of Ise-Shima and Mikawa Bay to the majestic mountains of the Hida region, and the Japan Alps... all are within easy reach of Nagoya. Japan's systematic transportation network provided links to major cities (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, etc.) in a couple of hours.
The climate in Nagoya in late May is generally pleasant; springtime attire is recommended. Temperatures range in the low 20 degrees celsius..
Participants are requested to complete the Registration Form enclosed with the 2nd
Announcement and return it to the Secretariat showing the method of
remittance of the Conference fee.

2ITS Annual Member Fee
¥4,000 for all participants (except accompanying persons).
All participants except accompanying persons are kindly requested to remit ¥4,000 for the
ITS Annual Member Fee together with the conference fee. We apologize for not
informing you of this earlier. Your understanding and cooperation would be highly
appreciated.
Please note that Secretariat, ICT98 accepts only Japanese yen in cash and, for overseas
attendees only, credit card (Visa or Master Card). Most
stores and shops accept major credit cards, but not foreign currencies, including
the US dollar. Foreign currency exchange is available at New Tokyo, Kansai, and
Nagoya International Airports, and at major hotels. Banks are open from 9:00
to 15:00 on weekdays, Monday through Friday.
A sufficient number of rooms will be available at special discounted rates. The room rate includes breakfast, service charge and tax. Please fill in the Hotel Application Form enclosed with the 2nd Announcement and return it to the address given in the form no later than May 8, 1998.
