Concert at Frauenkirche

Date:Tuesday, June 30, 2015
Location:Frauenkirche

We would like to invite you to the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady) in the historical heart of the city, whose dome once again dominates the skyline of Dresden. The reconstruction of the Frauenkirche is an impressive symbol of international reconciliation after World War II. The consecration attracted worldwide attention, and millions of people have already visited the Cathedral.

The Frauenkirche looks back on a 100 year history. Preceding structures were dedicated to Our Lady and called “Frauenkirche”, before the famous dome structure by George Bähr was built in the 18th century, and dominated Dresden’s cityscape for 200 years. The cathedral was destroyed shortly before the end of World War II, and its ruin remained as a memorial.

The conviction that the Frauenkirche had to be rebuilt was shared by many people within Dresden and elsewhere. It was 45 years before the realization of this dream became a feasible possibility, and finally 60 years went by before the Frauenkirche, in all its baroque beauty, could reopen its doors to the world.

After a brief historical introduction you will enjoy a short organ recital in this unique building, one of the most beautiful church buildings in Europe.

Excursion to Meissen / Moritzburg

Date:Monday, June 29, 2015
Time: 8.30 am - 4.00 pm

This coach trip will lead you to the 1000 year-old charming town of Meissen and the well-known Meissen Porcelain factory.

First we will stop at the Porcelain Manufactory. In the manufactory the ”White Gold” production process will be shown, and also you can see the impressive collection of exceptional porcelain masterpieces. There will be an opportunity to make purchases at the factory shop.

The excursion will proceed with a guided city walk through the old town, culminating at the late gothic Albrechtsburg Castle, and Meissen Cathedral on the citadel hill. The gothic Cathedral building was completed in 1410, but the two steeples were destroyed by lightening three years later. The steeples that you see today were only completed at the beginning of the 20th century.

After a break for lunch we will return to Dresden, stopping on the way at Moritzburg Palace. The Palace is situated on a small island in a lake. It was originally built as a hunting lodge for the Duke of Saxony in 1546, but was renovated in the baroque style in 1730. Though the interior is purported to be lovely, it is the surrounding parks that draw most visitors.

Included:

  • Transfer by coach
  • Guide
  • City walk Meissen
  • Entrance to the Porcelain Manufactory
  • Short stop at the hunting lodge Moritzburg (park only)
