A2: Medium temperature materials
PbTe-PbSe alloys have been successfully synthesized by melting starting materials followed by spark plasma sintering. Sodium was used for optimizing the carrier concentration. Thermoelectric properties of PbTe-PbSe alloys doped with different content sodium have been studied. Alloying combined with optimizing carrier concentration has been proved an effective method to obtain high ZT in lead telluride based materials. ZT~1.8 can be obtained from the sample doped with 2% Na. Mg was then introduced into lead telluride matrix to lower thermal conductivity and adjust the band structure, at the condition that power factor was not affected obviously, indicating a higher ZT obtained.
