General information 
The 8th European Conference on Thermoelectrics was held in Kraków 15-17th September 2004. The meeting was hosted by Faculty of Material Science and Ceramics and Faculty of Physics and Nuclear Techniques of the AGH University of Science and Technology. The scientific program was including parallel oral and poster sessions. Short abstracts were published in the Abstract Book and all papers were collected into the Articles Book. The working language of the Meeting was English. International Advisory Committee

Passport and Visa Each participant is responsible for obtaining a passport and a visa when applicable. Please check with your local Polish Embassy or Consulate whitch documents are required (please note that due to the EU extension in 2004 the procedure can be modified). Please contact the Organizing Committee in advance if the invitation letter is required Abstracts and Papers The abstracts list is now available. LIST OF ABSTRACTS Abstracts The abstract should be
written on one A4 page. It should be typed using Times 12 font leaving a 2.5 cm margin on either side and 3 cm from the top. Leave double line spacing between TITLE, author(s), affiliation(s) and text. Text should be written in single line spacing and block setting. References should be numbered in square brackets in the text as well as in the citations at the end. Graphics should only be included in black and white. The whole abstract should not exceed 100 kb.The abstract should be sent as attached document by e-mail to: Full Papers Full papers will be collected into the Articles Book. For each presentation a manuscript should be prepared as a camera-ready hard copy. Papers should be submitted on the first day of the conference at time of registration. Properly formatted manuscript should not exceed 6 pages for poster and oral presentations. Materials submitted for publication will not be returned. More guidelines and a sample paper.Oral Sessions Two parallel sessions will accommodate the oral presentations that will be presented during the meeting. Speakers are allocated 15 minutes for their presentation followed by 2-4 minutes for discussion. The total time allocated for each speaker is 20 minutes. Lecture room has two screens, one overhead projector and one data projector. Digital projector will be connected to a computer at the podium. The computer will have a CD drive, so delegates may bring a CD with their PowerPoint (ppt) file. You will be able to check your PowerPoint presentation on our computer before your session. Poster Sessions Posters must NOT be larger than 0.8 m (width) to 1.1 m (height).The first poster session will be held on Wednesday, September 16. The second poster session will be on Thursday, September 17. Participants presenting posters in the first poster session should mount their posters on the numbered boards during Wednesday, September 15 registration or at least during Thursday registration. The Registration desk will provide 3M tape and pins to mount the posters. Each poster author should be present at his poster for the duration of the poster session to explain and discuss about his/her poster. Posters can be left on the poster boards until the end of the Workshop on Friday, September 17. Participants presenting posters of the second poster session should mount their posters on the provided boards before the Friday, September 17. Kraków
Yet Kraków is not a silent memorial to bygone events: it's a city alive with character and soul. Ringed by parkland, the Old Town is compact and utterly charming. The most important places in Krakow are the following: the Old Marketplace which is the largest medieval marketplace in Europe. Here you can find Sukiennice - Gothic shops, Kosciol Mariacki (St. Mary’ Church) with beautyful interiors. Do not miss the opportunity to hear the hourly bugle-call sounded from the tower of St. Mary's Church. Wawel is another magic place in Krakow. It is fortified hill on which you can find the Cathedral (with the tombs of the Polish Kings, and the largest Polish bell - the Zygmunt’s Bell - on the tower) and the Royal Castle with beautiful rooms. Krakow has over 140 churches and monasteries; 75 villas, aristocratic buildings with at the head of them Wawel Royal Castle, more than 600 monuments, 11 Universities and Academies, the well-known Jagiellonska library with 3 million volumes, famous theatres, nearly 100 art galleries and 50 museums; these are the numbers, if it is possible to express in numbers a town which has been classified by UNESCO one of the basic monuments of the cultural world heritage. Besides, Krakow is an excellent point for day trips to Wieliczka Salt Mine, Aushwitz Concentration Camp and the Trail of Eagles Nests, a network of castles and castle ruins situated North of the city. By plane The John Paul II International Airport in Balice is located 15 km (approx. 10 miles, about 30 min by bus) from the city center (city bus transportation - Bus # 152, 208 and D). Direct connections from: London, Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna, Budapest, Rome, Tel Aviv, Chicago and New York. Transit via Warsaw to Cracow from: Amsterdam, Bangkok, Berlin, Bonn, Brussels, Budapest, Cairo, Copenhagen, Damascus, Dubai, Dusseldorf, Helsinki, Hamburg, Istanbul, Kiev, Larnaca, Los Angeles, Lvov, Lyon, Miami, Mediolan, Minsk, Moscow, Munich, Nice, Oslo, Peking, Prague, Riga, St. Petersburg, Stockholm, Stuttgart, Toronto, Vilnius. By train: Krakow Glowny - the main station in Cracow located in the centre of the city. Direct international railway connections to Cracow from Austria (Vienna), the Czech Republic (Prague), Germany (Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt/M, Frankfurt/O, Leipzig), Hungary (Budapest), Rumania (Bucharest), Slovakia (Bratislava, Kosice), Ukraine (Kiev, Lvov, Odessa). By coach: Many travel agencies offer permanent coach connections between Cracow and numerous cities in Europe. By car: Krakow is located close to important roads, highways and at the crossroad of E 77 (linking the North with the South) and E 40 (linking the West with the East). One may also travel to Cracow along the A4 highway running from the West of Europe through Silesia.

2nd EUROPEAN
CONFERENCE ON 
The royal capital for half a
millennium, Kraków has witnessed and absorbed more history than any other Polish city. Moreover,
it came through the last war unscathed, so it has retained a wealth of old architecture from different periods. The tallest structures on Kraków's
skyline are not skyscrapers but the spires of old churches, the 20th century's impact having been confined to acid
rain.
