There are many factors contributing to the improvement of the efficiency of the thermoelectric generators(TEGs). In this case study, the thermal deformation of the TMs ,the cooling unit and the heat exchanger is studied on the basis of the temperature distribution of the heat exchanger. The simulation analysis shows that the TMs on different positions of the heat exchanger and the cooling unit have different thermal performance and the thermal performance is affected by the clamping mechanism, which has a greater influence on the cold side than the hot side. Also, infrared experiments are carried out on a high-performance production engine with a dynamometer to confirm the reasonability of the simulation results.Based on the results of the simulation and the experiments,it can be concluded that a better thermal performance, which is of great significance to increase the power generation efficiency of the TEG, will be achieved bythe TEG with a suitable constraint position and clamping force of the clamping mechanism.
