The thermoelectric (TE) industry serves a broad range of applications using predominantly a few standard module designs. We give an explanation of the features and prevalence of the standard designs. The explanation involves many factors (TE material characteristics, heat exchanger performance, manufacturing methods, price expectations, etc.), thus providing insight into both the production and the implementation of TE modules.
